Chapter Sixteen
Grayson was elated.
âI still canât believe it. Nothing like this has happened in our lifetime. Do you understand how big this?â
âYes, Grayson, again I do,â I said to him, which wasnât a lie. I knew the decision made yesterday was far bigger than the initial outcry that occurred in the chamber after Claudia left the room.
âHouse arrest? Can you believe it? The Countessâs house all closed up, itâs just crazy.â As if this was some sort of big game to him, breaking news flashing across the TV of something unimportant.
âYou do realise this leaves us in an even more precarious situation.â I said, âMaud told me they will need to move quickly to elect another leader otherwise the other nations will start swooping on us.â
âMaud, ever the positive cloud of fairy dust,â he said smirking as he lounged on the opposite couch from me in my living room.
I was having new furniture delivered. Most of the old stuff I had taken and placed into storage. I didnât want to get rid of it all, it was my families after all, but I did want to make sure Caroline Terrace reflected me, now that it was my home.
Heading into the kitchen, I was sorting through some boxes of plates, when I heard the doorbell ring and Grayson went to answer it. I couldnât hear anything at first, and then Grayson came into the kitchen and shut the door behind him.
âRight so we may have a bit of a problem.â
âWhat now?â Just for once I wanted a quiet day, it felt like for weeks it had just been nonstop problem after problem.
âThe Grand Duchess is outside and asking if she can come in to speak with you.â
âHow does she know where I live?â I asked puzzled and slightly concerned.
âI think we should turn her away; this doesnât feel right,â Grayson said his brow screwed up.
âNo, I donât want to risk anymore offence. If she wanted to kill me, I doubt she would be waiting patiently outside, donât you?â I said to him rolling my eyes. âJust let her in.â
âIâm telling her to leave her storm troopers outside then,â he shouted as he headed back to the door to let her in.
Realising I was just in joggers I suddenly felt very conscious about what I was wearing, but then she had arrived unannounced and there was no time to change. I quickly ran over and moved the chairs on the new table around in the kitchen. One of them still had a plastic sheet over it so I ripped it off and threw it in the bin.
âHello, Roman,â her sweet, soft, terrifying voice came from behind me.
I turned to face her, and she was still dressed just as oddly as she had been since the moment I first saw her. She had a fur Gillet, with a plain white top and a bright yellow skirt on with knee high black boots.
âI must apologise for the mess; I have only recently moved in and Iâm getting stuff delivered today.
